Curate - Inspiration for an Individual Home
Lynda Gardener (@lynda.gardener) is one of those women I've admired for the longest time. Both for her inimitable aesthetic, and for being one of the early leaders when it comes to small design-led accommodations.
15-odd years ago, before Airbnb was even a thing, Lynda designed and opened her first boutique hotel in the countryside destination of Daylesford. That incredible property was the first time I was introduced to Lynda's signature style - a simple monochrome palette (white and bright, with punches of black and charcoal), richly layered with loads of vintage, rustic and antique elements. Lynda's a master of curation - the art of not only collecting and selecting, but also editing and displaying.
So a couple of months ago, when I heard she was publishing a coffee table book (with fellow stylist and writer Ali Heath, and all the photography by one of my all-time favourite interior photographers Marnie Hawson), I immediately made an order. And I've been side-eyeing the courier daily, waiting for it to arrive.
Curate - Inspiration for an Individual Home outlines the elements that can lift a space from ordinary to extraordinary - palette, nature, textiles, lighting, storage, combining old and new, collections and art. Alongside plenty of practical advice, there's tours of 10 inspiring homes - including the collection of incredible little boutique cottages, apartments and small hotels that Lynda has become famous for.
These images are from Room and Board, Lynda's newest barn-style Airbnb.
This dreamy little barn-style stay is just one of the many spaces showcased in Curate. The book is a 224-page hardcover, with well over 300 beautiful photographs inside.
Curate also features The Wensley, a rustic but architectural 'shed' farmstay in the Australian hinterland.
And Photographer Marnie Hawson's own country cottage also features...
